Club career

During his stay in France he was considered "one of the best fullbacks in the Ligue 1", self-confidence this title was demonstrated when Lyon played Manchester United: "As a defender, my goal is to infuriate the opposition", Abidal said. "I want him to be so sick of hearing that he has to go somewhere else on the pitch to get away.In the Lyon defence, he played alongside other French international (Grégory Coupet, Francois Clerc and Anthony Réveillère) International and two Brazilians (Cris and Caçapa).

On June 30, 2007, Abidal moved to Barcelona for € 15 million, after repeatedly asserting that not return to training if you do not get the transfer, signing a four-year contract and taking into consideration the number 22 jersey, as the number 20 that led to Lyon was already taken by Deco. Barca President Joan Laporta also mentioned that the contract would contain a Abidal € 90 million release clause, Lyon and would receive an additional € 500000 if Barcelona wins the Champions League in one of the next four seasons.

National Team

Abidal has won 22 caps with the French national team, having won his debut cap on August 18, 2004.
